From Krakow: In the Footsteps of John Paul II
12 ReviewsThe tour gives you a chance to follow in the footsteps of the man who was to become one of the greatest Popes and human beings in history.
Whereas many places that style themselves as a 'Restaurant, Bar & Café' manage to fit all three responsibilities into the one place, Globe divides them out. Part of the Hilton Garden Inn hotel, just across the river from Wawel, Globe offers you a fine modern restaurant, a swanky cocktail bar and a chic café. Oh, and they take their approach to quality seriously.
Starting with the café, we learn that each member of staff has been trained at the Darboven Coffee Academy, that their coffee beans are custom mix of selected beans from South America and India and that they are of course Fairtrade beans. The interior is understated and modern, or if you don't want to hang around you can get one of their delicious coffees to go.
Moving to the restaurant (and by the way, through the windows is a great view of the cathedral and castle across the river) and perusing the menu reveals an impressively eclectic selection, with influences from South-east Asia, Italy, and even good old cod and chips for the Brits. Food is immaculately presented and, for such quality ingredients, very reasonably priced. They do a lot of daily specials, and will even offer to accommodate customer requests if something isn't on the menu.
The bar is very fancy, and is incidentally the only bar in Poland accredited by the Polish division of the International Bartenders Association. As well as impeccable presentations of all the classic cocktails, they have an impressive selection of unusual and rare alcohols from around the world (whiskies from Scotland, Ireland and Japan, including specialities from now-defunct distilleries). Presumably for groups, they offer the frankly terrifying 'Aquarium' cocktails, which are 2-litre behemoths. All in all, highly recommended.
