The Olive Restaurant
Krakow
Mediterranean
Just along the Vistula River from Wawel lies the Sheraton Hotel, Krakow's 21st century five-star cathedral to tourism. Helpfully, the Sheraton has several facilities available to non-residents and worthy of mention in their own right. For diners, the star must surely be The Olive Restaurant, which takes advantage of the Sheraton's stunning modern architecture. A huge triangular atrium fills the centre of the building, extending right up to a glass ceilinged roof. Small trees dotted around contribute to the general feeling of being outdoors, yet utterly protected from the elements.
As the flagship restaurant in a five-star hotel, it's expected that the food should be top-notch; and indeed it is. There's a distinctly Mediterranean flavour, and seafood is particularly well featured. The wine list is comfortably a match for the food and of course just about any cocktail you can think of, should you desire it.
A feature that's very popular with locals is the Jazzy Sunday Lunch where, for a flat fee, you can eat as much as you like all afternoon while a live band plays mellow jazz. The vast buffet means you'll need a particularly gargantuan appetite if you want to try and taste everything. Wine is included in the price. If you prefer something more discreet, you can also reserve the Wine Cellar private dining room for up to ten diners.
In summary, given its location and the spectacular setting, The Olive Restaurant must be high on the list of anyone - businessperson or tourist - who wants to enjoy fine dining while in Krakow.
